How will the Pilot work?

The Pilot will support 500 diverse homes in the 2515 area through four key elements:

• Subsidies – Households can access subsidies to upgrade gas appliances to efficient electric alternatives, with financing options (e.g., low-interest loans) available to cover the difference.
• Installations – Brighte will assist households in selecting and coordinating appliance installations, with local Illawarra tradespeople completing the work.
• Energy Management – Each household will receive a fully subsidised smart energy device, installed in the switchboard and paired with an app to help monitor and optimise energy use, particularly for rooftop solar and off-peak hours. This data will also contribute to research on energy flexibility and consumer behaviour.
• Research – The pilot will analyse the interaction between consumers, appliances, energy loads, the electricity grid, smart technology, and education to develop scalable electrification solutions.
